Where is the FOREST RETREAT located ?

The Forest Retreat is in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico.

 

How do I get there ?

There are 3 airports you can fly into. And in each city you can easily purchase any speciality items you may need before going to the mountains.

 

1. Oaxaca city

2. Huatulco

3. Puerto Escondido

 

NOTE: Before arriving in San Mateo, you need to first go to the town of San Jose Del Pacifico, then take a taxi to San Mateo. There are many taxis available. The drive to San Mateo will take approx. 30mins and cost approx. 200mxn.

Our onsite host Alexis will meet you in San Mateo. He knows the area very well, and once you are in contact with him you will arrange a time to meet.

 

1. Oaxaca City

Head for the bus company Eclipse which is located on Armenta y López 504, Centro, 68000 Oaxaca. You won’t miss the small group of drivers hanging outside, nor the large bus timetable and signs plastered on the doorframe.

The collectivo leaves for San José Del Pacífico every 45 minutes, and costs approx 150MXN each way.

You can pre-book, but it also normal to show up and pay at arrival.

Drive will take approx 3 hours.

 

2. Huatulco

This airport is a 45min taxi drive from the town of Pochutla, and a 1 hour  taxi drive from Mazunte.

You want to go to Pochutla where the colectivo vans are that take you to San Jose del Pacifico.

A taxi from the airport can take you to your accommodation or ask them to take you directly to either colectivo stations Eclipse or Lineas Unidas in Pochutla.

It is recommended to already be on the colectivo no later than 1pm so you have enough time to arrive in San Jose, take a taxi to San Mateo, meet the onsite host and get to the cabin.

The colectivo costs approx. 150mxn each way

Drive will take approx. 3 hours. 

 

3. Puerto Escondido

This airport is a 1 hour taxi drive from the town of Pochutla, and a 45min  taxi drive from Mazunte.

You want to go to Pochutla where the colectivo vans are that take you to San Jose del Pacifico.

A taxi from the airport can take you to your accommodation or ask them to take you directly to either colectivo stations Eclipse or Lineas Unidas in Pochutla.

Are the Cabins equipped which everything I will need?

Each cabin is equipped with the essentials.

You can expect:

Bedding, warm blankets, towels, simple kitchenette and cooking utensils, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, drinking water.

Bring your own toiletries, warm clothing, and speciality items.

Firewood is available by request.

 

How can I get food?

You can buy all the essentials of fruit and vegetables, rice, beans etc in the nearby village. To walk from the cabin is approx. 20mins.

Choices are limited up in the mountains. There is good coffee, cacao available at many of the local stores, and locally grown goods.

 

What do I need to know? 

IMPORTANT: It is a very simple place, without the luxuries of modern life. The cabins offer a digital detox.

Fleas are common around this area. We try our best to keep the cabins free of them but they are a natural part of living in nature.

However it is very rich in natural beauty and an energetic jewel, and a way of living which you can fall in love with.

 

Are there any extra costs? 

Cleaning fee - 350mxn which you pay directly to our onsite host on arrival.  

Firewood - approx 60mxn per bundle/day

Onsite host services - approx 200-250mxn per trip they make to town for you

 

What does the onsite host help with? 

They will meet and greet you and show you to the cabin. Give you tips for shopping and places to explore.

Our onsite host is not available 24 hours, but they do live nearby in case of emergencies and can support. 

If you need their help with anything extra then you can pay them directly for their services. 

Right now our onsite host is Ana and she is really friendly and helpful. 

 

How much is it to rent the cabins for retreats?

Please CONTACT us if you have a sincere calling to be in retreat and can not afford these prices. 

 

What does it feel like to be there?

The area is instantly healing as soon as you arrive and radiates a quietness and stillness which helps you to relax and open up to nature.

When we can deeply rest, then our spiritual practices and hearts open and we feel more in tune, and intimacy with nature and ourselves.

 

Will there be electricity, phone reception and wifi?

DIGITAL DETOX! There is none of these there, so enjoy!

 

Who are the “Rishis”?

The “Rishis" are legendary great Yogis and masters, who were the first disciples of Shiva. They are also the authors of the Palm Leaf prophecies, which are stored in temple libraries in India. MyPalmLeaf are very grateful to be part of this sacred mission to help people to find their palm leaves.
